Course “Sexuality and psychotheray of sexual disorders (May, 20-22, 2020)

The high prevalence of depression in the world and the heavy burden of this life-threatening mental illness necessitate a proven approach to its treatment to provide the most effective care for those suffering from it.

The guidelines presented in this workshop are based on guidelines for the treatment of adult patients with depressive disorders developed by leading Western professional associations and health care institutions.
This presentation will cover a wide range of relevant aspects of psychiatric and psychotherapeutic treatment, from general support to recommendations for work at different stages of treatment and work with different categories of patients.

ABOUT THE COACH:
Dr. Vitaliy Voitenko was born and raised in Ukraine, but has lived most of his adult life in the United States. In 2005, he completed a doctorate in clinical psychology from Wheaton College and a doctorate from Harvard Medical School. He also completed a doctorate in student mental health at Boston College.
He has a master’s degree in general theology and has many years of experience in pastoral care.
Dr. Voitenko teaches PsyD in Clinical Psychology at Wheaton College, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where he is an associate professor and director of clinical training.
He is also an assistant professor of psychiatry at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. Prior to joining Wheaton College, Vitaly worked in the Christian Services at Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he headed the Center for Best Practices for Depression, and taught and supervised intern psychologists and psychiatrists.

Dr. Voitenko’s research interests and clinical expertise include treatment-resistant depression and religion / spirituality in mental health. He runs the Religious and Health Research Laboratory at Wheaton College, and has published and given presentations on depression, religion / spirituality in psychiatry, and the training of competent physicians and pastoral counselors. His current research examines the possible role of religious and spiritual struggle in cases where patients do not receive better antidepressant treatment. In his clinical practice, he provides relational psychodynamic psychotherapy to adult patients with severe depression.
